This assignment was especially interesting and intriguing for me. I really appreciated the documentary of Richard Avedon and his work. The advice he gave in his documentary, became very useful while shooting my models and I tried to incorporate the skills he uses in his photography in mine as well. It was really fun being able to observe and understand the different sides of each individual I shot, just through my photographs. While deciding which photos to choose for this project, my goal was to find the ones I though fit the models personalities best. Overall I feel like the expressions and atmosphere that are expressed in these photos display a clear understanding and connection towards my models personalities.

  2. I like the pictures but most of them are facing away from the camera. They don't show much emotions.

  4. This is a very strong series Lian! I think you did a great job of incorporating Richard Avedon's techniques as well as your own. The change in angles and shading really help provide every portrait with its own mood and ambiguity. I really like the last two images because in both the models are not looking into the camera and it is almost as if the models are unaware of the camera. Great Job

  5. This a an extremely strong series. i think that you did an amazing job with making it so your models do not pose for the pictures. i also enjoyed how the emotions varied throughout your series of photos. i think with each model that you used you captured a different emotion.

  8. I really like the tone of all your pictures. It definitely falls into a simple richard avedon style collection. the post shooting edits and contrast with black and white and shadows gives the portraits depth and purpose. Well done!
